Hi, I’m Rebecca-Monique – an ICF accredited coach and coach supervisor – and these are my passing thoughts.

SHIELD is the acronym used by 75-year-old, Singaporean financier and presidential candidate Ng Kok Song. It represents the practice of protecting oneself.

The S stands for Sleep

H - Handle stress

I - Interaction, that is to build relationships and connection

E - stands for exercise

L - is learn i.e. to keep our cognitive functions sharp

D  - is diet

Stanford professor Andrew Huberman recently shared 5 daily protocols for robust mental and physical health:

  1. Sleep, where quality, timing and duration are important markers
  2. Viewing sunlight as early on in the day as possible
  3. Movement such as cardio, and resistance and mobility training
  4. Nutrition
  5. Social connection, including connection with ourself

Can you spot the similarities between the two?

Whichever method or checklist we follow or blend, be it science-backed or from experience, our wellbeing must be holistic.

There is no single activity that will keep us healthy and fit.

Balance, moderation, consistency and discipline play key roles in our longevity.

It’s important to ask ourselves what we actually value and want in life, not just now but in the future,  and how is it reflected in our everyday behaviours and actions?

My question for you this week is:

What would your 80-year-old self make of your present day well-being decisions?
